Taya ang 38 gold medals sa 13 sports sa Day 1 ng 2019 SEA Games nitong Linggo.

Hanggang kagabi, humamig na ang Team Pilipinas ng 21 top podium finishes. Inumpisahan nina John ‘Rambo’ Chicano at Kim Mangrobang sa men’s at women’s triathlon events sa Subic.

Halos kasabay nilang nagkuwintas ng ginto si Agatha Wong sa women’s Taolu Taijiquan ng wushu.

Namakyaw ang Dancesport team na umindak ng 10 gold sa iba’t ibang categories ng event.

Gold sina Sean Aranar at Ana Nualla sa Open Standard, Single Dance Tango at Single Dance Viennese; tandem nina Mark Jayson Gayon at Mary Joy Renigen sa Single Slow Foxtrot at Single Dance Walts; pares nina Michael Angelo Marquez at Stephanie Sabalo sa Open Latin at Paso Doble; at duo nina Wilbert Aunzo at Pearl Marie Caneda sa Salsa, Cha-Cha at Rumba.

Pinangatawanan din ni Carlos Yulo ang billing na top gymnast ng bansa nang mangibabaw sa all-around event sa Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Umiskor si Yulo ng 84.900 sa six routines para ungusan si Dinh Phuong Thanh ng Vietman na nagkasya sa silver sa 82.350.

Nakasiguro na rin ng at least bronze ang PHL bets sa sanda (sparring) ng wushu, pare-parehong umusad sa medal round sina Jessie Aligaga (48kg), Francisco Solis (56kg), Gideon Fred Padua (60kg) at Clemente Tabugara Jr. (65kg).

Naka-pitong silver at apat pang bronze ang Team Pilipinas para dominahin ang Day 1, nasa unahan agad ng medal tally. (VE)
