Fronda namayagpag sa nat’l chess standard

Sorpresang pinangibabawan ni Woman International Master Jan Jodilyn Fronda ng Muntinlupa City ang 2019 National Women’s Chess Championships standard event, upang masakote ang isang puwesto sa lima-katao ng PH squad para sa 44th World Chess Olympiad 2020 sa Khanty-Mansky, Russia sa Agosto 1-15 nitong Huwebes sa Philippine Academy for Chess Excellence sa Quezon City.

Umiskor ang 25 year old, Singapore chess instructor, former De LaSalle University standout, at 76th University Athletic Association of the Philippines Most Valuable Player 2014, ng 9.5 points sa 13 rounds sa likod ng 6 wins, 7 draws at no loss, sapat upang mabawi ang titulong unang napanalunan nitong 2015.

Pumangalawa ang napatalsik sa trono na si WIM elect Shanaia Mae Mendoza ng Far Eastern University/Sta. Rosa City, at ikatlo si Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna ng FEU/Legazpi City na may kagayang 9.0 markers tulad ni fourth placer WIM Marie Antoinette San Diego ng DLSU/Dasmariñas.

Naayos ang posisyon nina Mendoza, Frayna at San Diego tapos pairalin ang tiebreak points sa 11-day chessfest na binalangkas ng National Chess Federation of the Philippines.

Sinuportahan ito nina NCFP President/Chairman Deputy Speaker Prospero Pichay, Jr., Mayor Carla Lopez Pichay, Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William I. Ramirez at PSC commissioners, Dasmarinas Cong. Elpidio Barzaga, Jr. at FEU chairman.

Pasok sa Top 10 sina WIM Kylen Joy Mordido ng Dasmariñas Integrated High School sa 8.5 pts, WIM Catherine Pereña-Secopito ng University of the Philippines San Jose del Monte City, (8.5), WIM Bernadette Galas ng DLSU-Makati City (8), WIM Mikee Charlene Suede ng UP/Makati ( 7), W FIDE Master Allaney Jia Doroy ng National University/Agusan del Sur (5.5), at Rizalyn Jasmine Tejada ng FEU/Tanza, Cavite (5.5).
