Martin gustong maglaro sa Gilas

Handang ibandera ni Remy Martin ang Gilas Pilipinas sa international competitions.

Nitong nakaraang linggo, inanunsyo ni ng Gil-Am guard mula sa Arizona State University cager ang paghabagi sa 74th Naational Basketball Association (NBA) Draft 2020.

Sa kanyang Instagram video, ipinakita ng 21-year-old, six-footer point guard ang kanyang hangarin na mapabilang sa national men’s basketball team team sa hinahanarap.

“My mom is Filipino, and that’s everything,” sambit ni Martin sa kanyang ina na si Mary Ann Macaspac “If you know me, I always wear the Filipino stuff. It just made me who I am.”

Kahit hindi pa nakakadalaw sa bansa, batid naman ng basketbolista ang pagmamahal ng nga Pinoy sa sport.

“I always want to represent the country in the sport that they love,” wika baller “They love basketball, they love watching, they love everything about the game.”

Gumawa ng ingay si Martin para sa Sun Devils at naibagahe pa ang Pac-12 Sixth Man of the Year honors bilang rookie sa taong ito

Sa kanyang junior season, may average siyang 19.1 points, 4.1 assists at 3.1 rebounds per game.

Nakasama rin si Martin sa “23 for 23” list ni former Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes at napabalita pang kasama rin sa PH quintet para sa 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup ngunit hindi nakasali sa koponan sa huling minuto.

Gayun pa man, determinado si Martin na makapaglaro poa rin sa bansa.

“I always wanted to go, and especially play for the national team,” saad niya. “I know one day that I’m going to make my way out there, and it’s gonna be a blast.”

“I’m gonna give them everything I have,” pangako niya.

Sa ngayon, asahan ang patuloy na pagragasa ni Martin sa basketball court.

“You know, it’s a privilege,” panapos niyang sambit. “It’s a privilege to play the game that you love, especially at this level. I’m just trying to help, that’s all I wanna do. Help them that, if I can do it, they can do it as well.” (Janiel Abby Toralba)
