Mga event ng UAAP urong sa COVID-19

Para masigurado ang kaligtasan ng buong University ­Athletic Association of the Philippines community, inanunsyo ng league na i-postpone muna ang lahat ng sporting events pagtapos ng Pebrero 14 dahil sa COVID-19 outbreak.

Unanimous ang naging pasya ng Board of Trustees at Board of Managing Directors nitong Martes matapos ang press conference para sa second semester events.

Pagtalima rin ito sa advisories ng Department of Health at Commissioner on Higher Education.

“The University Athletic Association of the Philippines upholds, in the highest regard, the well- being, health and safety of the League’s community - players, coaches, students, their families and fans in general,” ­pahayag Miyerkoles nina UAAP President Emmanuel Fernandez at Executive Director Rene Saguisag Jr.

“In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, the UAAP, after thorough deliberation by the Board of Trustees and the Board of Managing Directors, have come to a decision to postpone all sporting events starting Saturday, 15 February.”
Dahil rito, mauudlot ang opening ng ­collegiate volleyball tournament na sana ay ­gaganapin sa darating na weekend.

Postponed rin ang men’s football ­tournament na sisimulan sana sa Pebrero 16, ­softball ­tournament (Peb. 17), seniors baseball ­tournament (Peb. 19), athletics (Peb. 19-23), at judo (huling linggo ng Pebrero).

Mauusog rin ang playoffs para sa high school beach volleyball at basketball tournaments.

Samantala, tuloy ngayong linggo ang fencing tournament at 10th matchday ng high school boys’ football tournament.

Kaugnay rito, nananawagan ang liga na ­manatiling ligtas at ipanalangin ang kaligtasan ng bansa.

“The UAAP will be closely monitoring the country’s situation in relation to the COVID-19 outbreak in order to determine the resumption of the games,” ayon pa sa dalawang opisyal.
